Interview: Tara Miller Owner of Health Hut

I recently meet Tara Miller, Holistic Nutritionist and Founder of Health Hut in Toronto. I instantly liked Tara – maybe it was the name : ) and I LOVED her shop!
What is Health Hut you ask, Tara says it best, “Curated with your well-being in mind, Health Hut is a holistic one stop shop for your natural beauty, lifestyle + self-care needs.” Tara has a shop in Toronto at 786 Collage Street and in Muskoka at 3658 Highway 118 West as well as an online shop that ships across Canada and the US.

I asked Tara some questions and asked her to give me a list of her fave products, because isn’t that what we all want to know?!

How did you come up with the idea of Health Hut?

I had recently graduated as a Holistic Nutritionist where I became interested in natural daily care products/wanted to find a way to spend the summer up north at my cottage in Muskoka. I put a bunch of my favourite products into an old ice cream hut and called it Health Hut. I joke that had I known it would still be around seven years later I would have been more creative with the name.

What are your top tips/pieces of advice for people who are looking to make their beauty and skincare regimes a bit more natural?

Start small! Do not freak out and feel like you need to throw away all of your current products. Living in fear is never healthy. Experiment and find things you like and look forward to using. There are so many amazing options these days, you’ll find something that you love. Also, seek advice from someone in the industry. I love spending time chatting with new customers about the best options for them – including their budget and lifestyle. I am always happy to help!

Tara’s Fave Products

Best Skin Ever Seabuckthorn: I love that you can use this serum for cleansing + moisturizing on your face, body and hair! Also, it smells like a dream.

Tata Resurfacing Mask: My favourite mask for the perfect pre-party glow!

Vintners Daughter: This organic serum contains 22 active botanicals and is a true game changer! I love that it works for all skin types, too.

Wildcraft Face Cream: A local favourite of mine. Rich enough for the winter months, but does not feel heavy or clog pores.

MMT Baking Soda Free Deodorant: A good BSF deo is hard to find – but this gem works! Tried, tested, and true.

Rahua Shampoo + Conditioner: I have searched high and low for a great natural shampoo and conditioner that leaves your hair soft and smooth. These guys nailed it.

Sun Potion Reishi: A powerful adaptogen to restore balance to the body and mind. I love adding calming reishi powder into my smoothies in the morning or an afternoon tea or hot cocoa.

PA Toner: I can’t live without a toner to mist my face pre-oil/serum. This one has a beautiful smell from the rose and lavender flower water – I look forward to using it every morning.

Suntegrity SPF + Primer: Most natural SPF leave your skin super white and chalky. These ones blend so nicely (and smell wonderful!). They come in tinted versions, too.

RMS Lip2Cheek in Beloved: I don’t wear a lot of makeup, but love a nice pop of (lead-free) colour my my lips!
