National Donut Day

Happy National Donut Day!

Whether you spell
it doughnut or donut it’s one fun day!

Doughnut is the
original spelling of the word, with donut generally being listed as a variant
of the preferred original spelling.

Fun fact, Dunkin’
Donuts made the spelling donut more popular. I personally prefer
the spelling donut.

Celebrated on the
first Friday in June each year, National Doughnut Day started in
1938 as a fund raiser for Chicago’s Salvation Army. Their goal was to help
those in need during the Great Depression, and to honor The Salvation Army
women of World War I, who served doughnuts to the soldiers.

If you feel like a
donut today (why wouldn’t you?!) here are some local places you can try.

Glory Hole, 1596 Queen St W, Toronto – I love their cinnamon
sugar donut!

SunshineDonuts, 439 Brock Ave, Burlington – I like their
“Sunshine Original”  which is just a
vanilla glazed donut and their sugar donut.

Von Doughnuts, 713 Danforth Ave, Toronto

Jelly ModernDoughnuts

The RollingPin, 3429 Yonge St, North York – they also have amazing cupcakes

Daddy O Doughnuts& British Baked Goods, 589 N Service Rd Mississauga

Bloomer’s (vegan
donuts) 873 Bloor St W, Toronto

Tori’s Bakeshop
(vegan & organic baked goods) 2188 Queen St E,

Krispy Kreme
Giving away free donuts today at all seven locations in Canada!

Tim Hortons Had to
be listed because who doesn’t love a Timmi’s donut?! My faves are honey
dip and old fashion glazed, as I’m sure you can tell I like
the simpler donuts. Though I will buy fun donuts for a good pic, haha but
luckily my bf is always happy to eat them. Though I do love Tim’s sprinkle, chocolate
dip and maple dip donuts, I’ve been eating those since I was a kid!

Suzy Q Doughnuts if
you’re in Ottawa (I want to check this place out!)

Trou De Beigne if
you’re in Montreal (I also want to go here, it looks great!)

Anddd if you’re
super into Donuts on Sunday, June 25 from 12-4 pm there will be
a Doughnut Festival at Dufferin Mall in Toronto. More than a dozen of
the city’s favourite donut vendors will be under one roof, how
